BUILDING MOMENTUM IN STATESBORO, GA -- CRANSTON is honored to have played a role in the long-awaited restoration, reclamation, and reimagining of the historic Whitesville Park in the City of Statesboro, Georgia's, Whitesville neighborhood. Community leaders and residents gathered recently to celebrate the ground-breaking of this $1.2 million revitalization project, which is being funded through the American Rescue Plan Act and is scheduled for completion later this year. The new park will include new playgrounds, picnic shelters, a larger pavilion, a basketball court, restroom facilities, walking areas with benches, water fountains, and other gathering spaces for this historic Statesboro community. CRANSTON provided civil engineering site design, led by civil engineer Penland Mayson, as well as landscape architecture design, led by landscape designer Lauren Alexander, for this momentous development project, which community leaders and others have been planning for decades. Kudos to Whitesville community leaders and the City of Statesboro for bringing this vision to life. #cranston #parksandrecreationdesign #statesboroga #whitesville #civilengineering #landscapearchitecture #buildingmomentum

SUCCEEDING THE CRANSTON WAY -- (Hard) hats off to Penland Mayson, a civil engineer with CRANSTON's Augusta, Ga., office. Penland, who often finds himself at the center of high-profile infrastructure design projects -- some of them award-winning, last week passed his PE Test for the State of Georgia. And he already has received his PE license number for the state. Penland, along with colleagues Lance Cheely, Lauren Alexander, and Tom Dunaway, recently won a 2025 Engineering Excellence State Award (first place) from the ACEC-Georgia for a series of projects along North Augusta, S.C.'s Savannah riverfront (see below for details). As Tom Dunaway, PE, vice president of operations at CRANSTON, says of Penland, "I am unbelievably proud of Penland in earning his registration." Congratulations, Penland! #cranston #civilengineering #cranstoncareers

RECOGNIZING EMPLOYEE ACHIEVEMENTS -- Even as CRANSTON team members work hard every day to provide infrastructure design for our clients, add to that the requirement for our early-career staffers to study hard to pass their important professional exams. We salute such efforts. This week, we'd like to recognize the recent milestone achievements in the careers of five of our valued team members: Civil engineer Sushmita Regmi, based in Augusta, Ga., recently passed her Professional Engineer (PE) exam for the state of North Carolina. Now she can begin the four-month process of obtaining her PE license, which she then can transfer to Georgia and South Carolina. Likewise, civil engineer Alyssa Smith, based in our Midlands office in Aiken, S.C., has passed her PE exam in South Carolina and has begun the four-month process to get her license in the state. Civil engineer Hannah Musau, meanwhile, recently passed her Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in Georgia, and civil engineer Swarupa Paudel earned her GSWCC Level II Reviewer certification. She now is working toward taking the FE exam. And in CRANSTON's Augusta-based Survey department, Wright Montgomery recently became a South Carolina Registered Land Surveyor. Congratulations to all five CRANSTON team members, as CRANSTON empowers not only our communities to thrive, but also our people. #cranston #cranstoncareers #civilengineering #structuralengineering #landscapearchitecture #surveying

SAVANNAH RIVERFRONT RECOGNITION -- We're grateful to the City of North Augusta, S.C. for allowing us the opportunity to bring its Savannah Riverfront vision to life. This series of destination development projects, which benefits the entire Central Savannah River Area between North Augusta and Augusta, Ga., resulted in a 2025 Engineering Excellence State Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies-Georgia (ACEC-GA) (small projects category). This four-in-one project for North Augusta included the following: an improved Sharon Jones Amphitheater with 350 more seats; improved stormwater drainage; lighted landscaping and walkways; new public restrooms; a new public dock with seven boat slips; and a park plaza with benches and a ramp to the dock. CRANSTON provided civil/structural engineering and landscape architecture for this transformative project aimed at supporting the city’s efforts to make it a destination city. Other project partners included Booker+Vick Architects and RD Brown Contractors, Inc. This group of projects served as part of a grander vision for the area, which includes a nearby hotel, multi-use minor league baseball park, restaurants, shops, single- and multi-family housing, walking trails, the nearby Brick Pond Park, and the Arts & Heritage Center of North Augusta. Karl Waldhauer, director of Tourism for the city, in a testimonial letter last fall about CRANSTON and the project, said, "The CRANSTON team worked tirelessly with us from the beginning not only to bring our strategic plan to life, but also to help us navigate the complexities that are built into public projects with such a diversity of constituent stakeholders, including local and state governments, the local business community, and nearby residents, among others. We’re grateful for CRANSTON’s dedication…to the success of our community…” As CRANSTON presented an ACEC-GA Award plaque to city officials this week, Jim Clifford, city administrator for North Augusta, said of the development projects: "This is a gateway project for North Augusta and the CSRA. It's a regional asset with enormous economic impact for the City of North Augusta and Augusta, Georgia. It ultimately offers an enormous draw for residents and visitors. And it's a great example of how government investment spurs private development." This also, of course, demonstrates how CRANSTON "empowers communities to thrive." Thanks, City of North Augusta. #cranston #northaugustasc #CSRA #augustaga #civilengineering #structuralengineering #landscapearchitecture #acecga
