We're partnering with a growing number of utilities to identify hazards, reduce outages, and safeguard communities across North America. As we are reminded far too often and all too recently, there is much work to be done. Now, thanks to a new $26.4 million funding round led by Sequoia Capital, alongside Fifty Years, Lowercarbon Capital, True Ventures, and Convective Capital, we can accelerate our vision to provide power utilities with a command view of the grid so they can see, understand and act. Our team is growing! If you're ready to put your skills to work on the critical challenge of protecting the grid and preventing hazards...we're hiring. Check out the link in the comments.

One of our Griddies James Roach spotted this homemade sign yesterday near Bolinas, CA, and it’s the perfect image to sum up how we should all feel about our lineworkers. So today, we join International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and Edison Electric Institute in celebrating our dedicated and brave lineworkers. Throughout thousands of communities across the USA, more than 100,000 electrical lineworkers work tirelessly to keep our lights on and our communities connected. It’s a story of determination, hard work, and skill dedicated to one goal: ensuring a reliable and resilient energy grid. ?? ?? A closer look into their reality: Linemen are often working in challenging conditions in remote areas, days at a time, dealing with bad weather ???? from storms to heat waves and everything in between, protecting our way of life. So, from the whole team at Gridware, including our former lineworker CEO, Timothy Barat we thank you, lineworkers! We appreciate you today and every day! ??? #LineworkerAppreciationDay #Gratitude #Gridware #ThankALineworker #UnionStrong #ActiveGridResponse

For decades, protection engineers have been at the heart of grid safety, designing systems that save lives, reduce outages, and restore power when it matters most. Until recently, the industry has focused almost entirely on electrical signals. But mechanical signals, especially, vibration and acoustic signals, offer a different kind of visibility. Electrical signals tell you ?????????????????? has happened.? Mechanical signals tell you ????????, ??????????, and ?????? ??????. I’ve long admired Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL)'s products, people, and culture of service. So hearing James Tuccillo, P.E., a PG&E protection engineer, highlight mechanical sensing, and specifically Gridware, on a podcast with SEL’s President David Whitehead was a powerful moment for me. “???? ???? ???????????????????? ????????????????… ?? ?????????????? ???????? ???????? ?????? ???????????? ???? ???????? ???????? ???????????????????? ?????????? ??????????????… ???????? ???????????????? ?????????????? ?????? ?????? ?????? ?????????? ???? ?????? ???????????? ????????????????… ???????? ???????? ????, ???????? ?????????? ????” If you work in grid protection or operations, I especially recommend listening in. The section on mechanical sensing starts just after minute 35.
Utilities are making unprecedented investments in wildfire mitigation—strengthening infrastructure, deploying advanced technologies, and rethinking protection strategies from the ground up. I recently sat down with James Tuccillo, P.E., Pacific Gas and Electric Company, to talk about all the things the utility is doing to reduce ignition risk throughout its 70,000-square-mile service area—including its goal to underground 10,000 miles of power lines. This is a tough problem to solve. Wildfires don't follow the rules. But it's inspiring to talk with the people working to find new ways to reduce the risk. Utilities face a dangerous blind spot when it comes to powerline hazards, typically discovering them only after outages have already occurred. When a fault happens, crews must patrol miles of lines with zero insight into the hazard's exact location or severity. This critical time between hazard occurrence and identification is "Hazard Awareness Delay." See how reducing Hazard Awareness Delay through Active Grid Response enables utilities to MEASURE physical and electrical factors, UNDERSTAND these signals, and ACT on them before threats escalate, dramatically improving safety and restoration times.

It takes courage to roll the dice on a novel piece of technology no matter what industry you’re in - but even more so for a regulated utility balancing so many priorities. Thanks to Russell Profaizer, PE Josh Gould, Ian Angelo, Benjamin Cain, and #RichardSaporito for seeing the possibilities, and the partnership that has led to meaningful impact for Duquesne Light Company customers, with more to come!
Exciting news from Duquesne Light Company: the utility plans to begin a full-scale rollout of Gridware later this year. According to their recent corporate responsibility report, this rollout marks a major step toward creating a smarter, more resilient grid that better serves the community. Stay tuned to hear how Gridware will help DLC eliminate Hazard Awareness Delay and MEASURE, UNDERSTAND, and ACT to improve safety and reduce outages.
