The company began its journey in the Permian Basin before expanding operations into the Anadarko Basin in 1976. Today, MOC employs over 800 people and has grown into one of the largest and most respected oil and gas companies in the United States. It remains privately owned by the Mewbourne family, a testament to its enduring legacy. MOC is led by Regent Ken Waits, who serves as President and CEO. Mewbourne Oil Company celebrated this significant milestone earlier this month, honoring many employees with service awards for their invaluable contributions. Oil & Gas Exploration and Production Company Established in 1965, Mewbourne Oil Company has grown into one of the more prominent independent oil and natural gas producers in the Anadarko and Permian Basins of Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. The company’s success over the years can be attributed to a conservative approach to the business and a philosophy of managing all phases of operations from “prospect to pipeline”. From the Company’s headquarters in Tyler, Texas, and with its three exploration offices located in Amarillo and Midland, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, along with four operation offices located in Perryton and Midland, Texas, Woodward, Oklahoma, and Hobbs, New Mexico, Mewbourne Oil Company develops oil and natural gas prospects, acquires leasehold interests, and serves as the operator in the drilling, completion and production of oil and natural gas wells. Historically, the Company has emphasized establishing long-life natural gas reserves through the drilling of medium-depth wells between 3,000 and 13,000 feet deep Prospective drill sites generally include field extensions, step-outs, trend plays and other anomalies that are believed to be contiguous to areas where the presence of oil and natural gas has already been established. The company currently operates over 2,500 wells. Mewbourne Oil Company has consistently been successful in attracting and retaining professional talent within the industry and at the university level. Mewbourne also actively recruits for petroleum engineering, geology, and petroleum land management students at the university level for summer internships and entry-level positions. When Oklahoma Governor, Kevin Stitt challenges you to join he and the Oklahoma Pork Council’s “Give a Ham” challenge – you #GiveAHam! Mewbourne Oil Company President and CEO, Ken Waits, was delighted to accept his challenge and #GiveAHam. He’s excited to be donating his ham to the Woodward Hope Center which is an incredible organization that is dedicated to eliminating hunger throughout our Midcontinent operating region in the Anadarko Basin of NW Oklahoma. Mewbourne Oil Company will also be making a monetary donation to facilitate the Hope Center’s mission of supporting those families in need around the holidays. To keep the Governor and Oklahoma Pork Council’s #GiveAHam challenge going, Mr. Waits happily extends the challenge to a couple of great leaders in the oil and gas industry, Devon Energy President and CEO, Rick Muncrief, and Continental Resources President and CEO, Doug Lawler, along with his good friend and President of the University of Oklahoma, Mr. Joe Harroz. Mewbourne has officially wrapped up a successful summer with our 40+ interns across multiple disciplines and locations. Our annual Intern Roundup (pictured below) celebrated these great students and their accomplishments. This summer, we hosted our very first interns in Automation Engineering and IT. In 2025, we expect to host three new intern disciplines: Environmental Engineering, Human Resources, and Accounting. This is an exciting time to join Mewbourne Oil Company. We look forward to seeing you all on campus soon!
