I had the privilege to work with Genuine Foods New Orleans team in organizing, planning and executing our tasting at Einstein Charter school this week! The hard work our team put into this event showed and the food was top notch! Traditional NOLA favorites of red beans and rice, maque choux, smothered okra and tomatoes, and gumbo accompanied student favorites including hot honey chicken, macaroni & cheese, and chicken and waffles- all from scratch! I couldn’t be more proud to work for a company and with a team that creates great tasting scratch dishes that students, administrators, and parents rave about!

Since the start of this school year, Barre Unified Union School District has gone from heat-and-serve meals to nearly 100% scratch cooking and just earned a national award for it. Together with Genuine Foods, the district has: ? Rebuilt its menus with fresh, locally sourced, scratch-made meals ? Reimagined salad bars using cafeteria-grown produce, local Vermont foods, and non-traditional options like hummus ? Launched Try It Tuesdays—a weekly event that encourages students to explore new ingredients and build food curiosity ? Invested in Genuine Moments, our proprietary hospitality training program, to empower staff and strengthen connections with students Barre was recently awarded the USDA’s Healthy Meals Incentives Recognition Award for Excellence in Nutrition Education. We’re deep in “busy season” -10,000 miles a minute, bouncing between states and time zones, with no real end in sight. But one of the silver linings? I get to spend real, in-person time with more of the Genuine Foods team. That’s always energizing. Much like a kitchen brigade, we show up for one another—titles and job descriptions aside. We roll up our sleeves and get it done together. And then there’s the food. This industry can lean heavy on performance and light on substance, but not here. Our group chats are full of what we cooked last night, the best spots for spice blends, and intense debates about where to eat next. Food is the heartbeat. On this trip, one of my coworkers brought us maple syrup he tapped from his own trees—packaged with care in miniature Ball jars. It’s that kind of thoughtfulness that reminds me why this work and these people matter. I also snuck in a solo visit to Balkan Treat Box just outside of St. Louis—perfectly spiced, incredibly fresh dishes, brass music in the background, and a dining room full of strangers in their own busy worlds. One of those meals that catches you off guard in the best way and stays with you long after the last bite.
